Over the last 30 years, Jeff has brought together the elements of bel canto technique including appoggio breath control, Alexander Technique™, Linklater Technique™, Feldenkreis™ and other powerful methods to help students increase range, power, pitch precision and expressiveness. A good vocal technique requires physicality, intelligence and access to the emotions in order to communicate the true essence of any type of vocal expression. In fact, right from the start, we will work with your unique speaking voice and the body’s role in producing sound to connect the body and the mind to the voice. This holistic approach, which plays part in all vocal exercises tailored specifically to your strengths and weaknesses, not only serves to make the voice stronger, more supple and consistant - it helps you to develop effective and powerful physical habits, and this vocal competence leads to confidence. Further, from the very first lesson, we will be singing songs. As we all know, exercises can only address a part of the technical requirements in a performing a piece of music. Only through understanding and embracing the uniquenes of any song can we face its particular challenges and develop reliable technical habits and abilities. Simply put, a good, integrated, open-hearted technique is the secret to not simply singing well, but being a great imaginative singer.
